Elevators Went All the way to the Top!

In the era before helicopters, drones or other such modern devices, landscape photographers were limited when faced with capturing a particular scene from an unusual angle. Fortunately, Kingston's waterfront hosted two rather convenient vantage points. The top two photos are taken from the Montreal Transportation grain elevator, looking toward the Richardson elevator. In the foreground are various docks for handling bulk cargoes. This was NOT a pristine, visitor-friendly waterfront in the late age of sail! One postcard actually appears to be a cropped version of the other, but the colourization is quite nice!
Slightly to the west, the Richardson elevator provided the vantage point for this scene, including another distant elevator, coal and passenger docks and CP's waterfront yard, station and even the street railway!
I'll probably steer away from postcards for awhile. For every 50 card designs showing houses of worship, prisons or Queen's University, there might be a single one pertaining to our area of interest! An 1880's view, deep in the age of sail:
