Insurance Map, 1924

Until I rediscover the source of these images, here are some interesting views of streets and buildings adjacent to the Hanley Spur, as shown in a 1924 insurance map:
Mississauga Point, Canadian Locomotive Co.

Stations on Ontario Street

Heading for Place d'Armes

Place d'Armes

Woolen Mill

Montreal and Rideau Streets

  1. As a railway buff and a map buff with a Kingston connection, I find these images triply fascinating. How impressive the elegant map design is, especially considering that they were prepared manually.

  2. Sanborn insurance maps are often referred to. These 1924 maps resemble Sanborn, or maybe they are Sanborn maps. I believe the original posting was on a federal government website, but darned if I can find it now. They are definitely works of art in and of themselves.

Thanks for your comment, Drew. Did you ever get over to that side of town to photograph the Hanley Spur?
